Department of Genome Informatics

We are developing various genetic information analysis software which make advanced use of computer itself and computer network. We and Department of Human Genome Research also operate the computer system for genetic information analyses and provide it to biological researchers in Osaka University. Furthermore, we offer educational courses for genetic information analyses to students and researchers in our university.

1)Development of Genetic Information Analysis Software

a) Daily update sequence data provided by DNA/protein database centers are obtained automatically through computer network, Internet, to keep our databases update. b) To support genome research project, we have developed the tools performing homology search and motif search for multiple query sequences at once. c) We have developed such system as shortening the turn around time of homology search by parallel processing using several workstations.

2)Development of Graphical User Interface for Molecular Biologists

We have developed a menu system based on the NCSA Mosaic, through which typical genetic information analysis software are easily executed only by clicking mouse button. In addition, we have also developed software based on client-server model which enable our users to make use of our computer system from their own laboratories.
